Πέτρον, ὃς διὰ ζῆλον ἄδικον οὐχ ἕνα οὐδὲ δύο, ἀλλὰ πλείονας ὑπήνεγκεν πόνους καὶ οὕτω μαρτυρήσας ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὸν ὀφειλόμενον τόπον τῆς δόξης.

## English translation (Claude)

Peter, who because of unrighteous jealousy endured not one or two but many labors, and so, having borne his witness, went to the place of glory that was his due.

- “Having borne his witness” (μαρτυρήσας): or “having suffered martyrdom.” The earliest reference to Peter's death; the place is not named.
