Ἀσπάζομαι τοὺς οἴκους τῶν ἀδελφῶν μου σὺν γυναιξὶ καὶ τέκνοις καὶ τὰς παρθένους τὰς λεγομένας χήρας. ἔρρωσθέ μοι ἐν δυνάμει πατρός. ἀσπάζεται ὑμᾶς Φίλων σὺν ἐμοὶ ὤν.

## English translation (Claude)

I greet the households of my brothers with their wives and children, and the virgins who are called widows. Farewell in the power of the Father. Philo, who is with me, greets you.

- “The virgins who are called widows”: apparently unmarried women enrolled with the widows supported by the church (compare 1 Tim 5:3–16).
- Some manuscripts read “in the power of the Spirit”; the Ante-Nicene Fathers translation (1885) has “the power of the Holy Ghost.”
