Ὁ κύριος διὰ πολλὴν ταπεινοφροσύνην οὐχ ὡς ἄγγελος ὤφθη, ἀλλʼ ὡς ἄνθρωπος, καὶ ὅτε ἐν δόξῃ ὤφθη τοῖς ἀποστόλοις ἐπὶ τοῦ ὄρους, οὐ διʼ ἑαυτὸν ἐποίησεν δεικνὺς ἑαυτόν, ἀλλὰ τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, ἥτις ἐστὶ »τὸ γένος τὸ ἐκλεκτόν«, ἵνα μάθῃ τὴν προκοπὴν αὐτοῦ μετὰ τὴν ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς ἔξοδον.

English · Claude translation

Through great humility the Lord appeared not as an angel but as a man. And when he appeared in glory to the apostles on the mountain, he did it not for his own sake, showing himself, but for the church, which is “the chosen race,” so that it might learn its own advancement after its departure from the flesh.
