»Λαβὼν χοῦν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς«, οὐ τῆς ξηρᾶς, ἀλλὰ τῆς πολυμεροῦς καὶ ποικίλης ὕλης μέρος, ψυχὴν γεώδη καὶ [ὑλικὴν ἐτεκτήνατο ἄλογον καὶ τῇ τῶν θηρίων ὁμοούσιον· οὗτος ὁ »κατʼ εἰκόνα« ἄνθρωπος.

“Taking dust from the earth,” not from the dry land but a part of the manifold and varied matter, he fashioned an earthy and material soul, irrational and of the same substance as that of the beasts. This is the man “according to the image.”
