To Diognetus 10.3
Traditional ascription rejected: The author is unknown. The only manuscript (destroyed in 1870) placed it among works of Justin Martyr, but the style is not Justin's. The name “Mathetes” sometimes used for the author comes from “a disciple of apostles” in 11.1. Chapters 11–12 probably come from a different work.
Summary: How can we not love the God who first loved us?
Greek text · Lake, LCL 25:370–372
ἐπιγνοὺς δὲ τίνος οἴει πληρωθήσεσθαι χαρᾶς; ἢ πῶς ἀγαπήσεις τὸ οὕτως προαγαπήσαντά σε;
English · Claude translation
And when you have come to know him, with what joy do you think you will be filled? Or how will you love him who so loved you first?
