Refutation of All Heresies 1.19.5

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Some Platonists compared the world to a wagon kept forever whole by repairing its parts.

English · Claude translation

Some of the Platonists have combined both, using an example like this: just as a wagon can remain forever imperishable by being repaired part by part, even if the parts perish each time, yet it remains whole; in this way the world too, even if it perishes in its parts, remains everlasting as what is taken away is repaired and replaced in equal measure.
