Refutation of All Heresies 10.14.2

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Ἔχειν γὰρ ἐν ἑαυτῷ τὰ πάντα οἷον οὐκ ὄντα ὑπό [τε] τοῦ οὐκ ὄντος θεοῦ γενέσθαι προβεβουλευμένα. Ἦν οὖν, φασίν, ἐν αὐτῷ τῷ σπέρματι υἱότης τριμερής, κατὰ πάντα τῷ οὐκ ὄντι θεῷ ὁμοούσιος, γεννητὴ ἐξ οὐκ ὄντων. Ταύτης τῆς υἱότητος τριχῆ διῃρημένης τὸ μέν τι ἦν λεπτομερές, τὸ δὲ παχυμερές, τὸ δὲ ἀποκαθάρσεως δεόμενον.

For it had in itself all things, as non-existent, planned beforehand to come into being by the non-existent God. There was, then, they say, in the seed itself a threefold Sonship, in every way of the same substance as the non-existent God, generated from things that are not. Of this Sonship divided threefold, one part was fine, another coarse, another in need of purification.
