Refutation of All Heresies 10.17.1

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Summary of Monoimus: the first principle is Man and Son of Man, and the world came from a part of the Son of Man.

English · Claude translation

Those who follow Monoimus the Arab say that the principle of the universe is the first Man and Son of Man; and that the things that came into being, as Moses says, were made not by the first Man but by the Son of Man, and not by the whole of him but by a part of him.
