Refutation of All Heresies 10.17.5

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: To know the whole, one must seek within oneself the one who says “my soul, my flesh, my mind.”

English · Claude translation

But if, he says, you wish to know the whole, seek in yourself who it is who says, “My soul, my flesh, my mind,” and who makes each single thing his own as though another; understand this one as perfect from perfect, considering all things his own, the things called non-existent and all things existing. These, then, are the views of Monoimus too.
