Refutation of All Heresies 8.13.4
Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.
Summary: Everything in the world came from only a part of the Son of Man, who is the single iota flowing from above.
English · Claude translation
And the beauty of that Son of Man is until now incomprehensible to all people who have gone astray about the offspring of the woman. Nothing of the things here, then, he says, came into being from that Man, nor ever will; but all things that have come into being have come not from the whole but from some part of the Son of Man. For the Son of Man, he says, is one iota, one stroke, flowing down from above, full, filling all, having in itself whatever the Man too has, the Father of the Son of Man.
