Refutation of All Heresies 8.17.3

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Hermogenes confessed Christ's virgin birth and resurrection but said at the ascension he left his body in the sun.

English · Claude translation

He confesses that Christ is the Son of the God who created all things, and agrees that he was born of a virgin and of the Spirit, according to the words of the Gospels; and that after the passion, having been raised, he appeared in a body to the disciples, and ascending into the heavens he left his body in the sun, while he himself went to the Father.
