English · Claude translation

Apart from him let nothing seem fitting to you. In him I carry my chains, my spiritual pearls, in which may I rise again through your prayer, in which may I always share, so that I may be found in the company of the Christians of Ephesus, who have always been in agreement with the apostles by the power of Jesus Christ.

Translation notes

  • “Rise again” (ἀναστῆναι): the resurrection; Ignatius hopes to rise still wearing his chains as a badge of honor.
