Ὡς δὲ ἀνεπαύσαντο, ἐγώ οὕτως αὐτοῖς πάλιν ἠρξάμην· Μὴ ἄλλο τί ἐστιν ὃ ἐπιμέμφεσθε ἡμᾶς, ἄνδρες φίλοι, ἢ τοῦτο ὅτι οὐ κατὰ τὸν νόμον βιοῦμεν, οὐδὲ ὁμοίως τοῖς προγόνοις ὑμῶν περιτεμνόμεθα τὴν σάρκα, οὐδὲ ὡς ὑμεῖς σαββατίζομεν; Ἢ καὶ ὁ βίος ἡμῶν καὶ τὸ ἦθος διαβέβληται παρʼ ὑμῖν; Τοῦτο δʼ ἐστὶν ὃ λέγω, μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς πεπιστεύκατε περὶ ἡμῶν, ὅτι δὴ ἐσθίομεν ἀνθρώπους καὶ μετὰ τὴν εἰλαπίνην ἀποσβεννύντες τοὺς λύχνους ἀθέσμοις μίξεσιν ἐγκυλιόμεθα, ἢ αὐτὸ τοῦτο καταγινώσκετε ἡμῶν μόνον, ὅτι τοιούτοις προσέχομεν λόγοις καὶ οὐκ ἀληθεῖ, ὡς οἴεσθε, πιστεύομεν δόξῃ;

When they had finished, I began again thus: “Is there anything else, friends, for which you blame us than this, that we do not live according to the law, nor are circumcised in the flesh like your forefathers, nor keep the Sabbath as you do? Or are our life and character also slandered among you? I mean this: have you too believed about us that we eat men, and that after the feast we put out the lamps and roll about in lawless unions? Or do you condemn us only for this, that we hold to such teachings and believe an opinion that is not, as you think, true?”
