Ἦν δὲ καὶ τοῦτο ἐπʼ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν ἁγίων ἀνδρῶν ἐκείνων καὶ προφητῶν τοῦ θεοῦ νοῆσαι γεγενημένον, ὅτι ἀμφότερα τὰ μυστήρια εἷς αὐτῶν βαστάσαι οὐκ ἦν δυνατός, λέγω δὲ τὸν τύπον τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ τὸν τύπον τῆς τοῦ ὀνόματος ἐπικλήσεως· ἑνὸς γὰρ μόνου ἡ ἰσχὺς αὕτη ἐστὶ καὶ ἦν καὶ ἔσται, οὗ καὶ τὸ ὄνομα πᾶσα ἀρχὴ δέδιεν, ὠδίνουσα ὅτι διʼ αὐτοῦ καταλύεσθαι μέλλουσιν. Ὁ οὖν παθητὸς ἡμῶν καὶ σταυρωθεὶς Χριστὸς οὐ κατηράθη ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου, ἀλλὰ μόνος σώσειν τοὺς μὴ ἀφισταμένους τῆς πίστεως αὐτοῦ ἐδήλου.

“And it was also to be understood in the case of both those holy men and prophets of God that neither of them could bear both mysteries, I mean the type of the cross and the type of the calling of the name; for this power belongs to one alone, and was, and will be, whose name every principality fears, being in anguish because they are to be destroyed through him. Our suffering and crucified Christ, then, was not cursed by the law, but showed that he alone would save those who do not depart from his faith.
