Παρώξυνάν με ἐπʼ ἀλλοτρίοις, ἐν βδελύγμασιν αὐτῶν ἐξεπίκρανάν με, ἔθυσαν δαιμονίοις οἷς οὐκ οἴδασι· καινοὶ καὶ πρόσφατοι ἥκασιν, οὓς οὐκ ᾔδεισαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν. Θεὸν τὸν γεννήσαντά σε ἐγκατέλιπες, καὶ ἐπελάθου θεοῦ τοῦ τρέφοντός σε. Καὶ εἶδε κύριος, καὶ ἐζήλωσε, καὶ παρωξύνθη διʼ ὀργὴν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ θυγατέρων, καὶ εἶπεν· Ἀποστρέψω τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ δείξω τί ἔσται αὐτοῖς ἐπʼ ἐσχάτων, ὅτι γενεὰ ἐξεστραμμένη ἐστίν, υἱοὶ οἷς οὐκ ἔστι πίστις ἐν αὐτοῖς. “‘They provoked me with strange gods, with their abominations they embittered me; they sacrificed to demons whom they did not know; new and recent ones came, whom their fathers did not know. You forsook God who begot you, and forgot God who nourishes you. And the Lord saw, and was jealous, and was provoked to anger because of his sons and daughters, and said: I will turn my face away from them, and I will show what will be to them in the last days; for they are a perverse generation, sons in whom there is no faith. They made me jealous with what is not God; they provoked me to anger with their idols; and I will make them jealous with what is not a nation; with a foolish nation I will provoke them to anger. For a fire has been kindled from my wrath, and shall burn to Hades; it shall devour the earth and its fruits; it shall burn the foundations of the mountains. I will heap evils upon them.’
