Καὶ σιγώντων αὐτῶν εἶπον· Ἐγώ, ὦ φίλοι, καὶ τὰς γραφὰς λέγω νῦν ὡς ἐξηγήσαντο οἱ ἑβδομήκοντα· εἰπὼν γὰρ αὐτὰς πρότερον ὡς ὑμεῖς αὐτὰς ἔχετε, πεῖραν ὑμῶν ἐποιούμην πῶς διάκεισθε ἤδη τὴν γνώμην. Λέγων γὰρ τὴν γραφήν, ἣ λέγει· Οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς, ὅτι βεβούλευνται βουλὴν πονηρὰν καθʼ ἑαυτῶν εἰπόντες· ὡς ἐξηγήσαντο οἱ ἑβδομήκοντα ἐπήνεγκα· Ἄρωμεν τὸν δίκαιον, ὅτι δύσχρηστος ἡμῖν ἐστιν· ἐμοῦ ἐν ἀρχῇ τῆς ὁμιλίας καὶ εἰπόντος ὅπερ ὑμεῖς εἰρῆσθαι βούλεσθε, εἰπόντες· Δήσωμεν τὸν δίκαιον, ὅτι δύσχρηστος ἡμῖν ἐστιν.

English · Claude translation

And as they were silent I said: “Friends, I now cite the Scriptures as the Seventy translated them; for when I cited them before as you have them, I was making a test of how you are disposed in mind. For in citing the Scripture which says, ‘Woe to them, for they have planned an evil plan against themselves, saying,’ I added as the Seventy translated, ‘Let us take away the righteous one, for he is troublesome to us’; whereas at the beginning of the discussion I cited what you wish it to say: ‘Let us bind the righteous one, for he is troublesome to us.’
