Τίς ἤκουσε τοιοῦτον, καὶ τίς ἑώρακεν οὕτως, εἰ ὤδινεν ἡ γῆ ἐν μιᾷ ἡμέρᾳ, εἰ δὲ καὶ τέκοι ἔθνος εἰς ἅπαξ, ὅτι ὤδινε καὶ ἔτεκε Σιὼν τὰ παιδία αὐτῆς; Ἐγὼ δὲ ἔδωκα τὴν προσδοκίαν ταύτην καὶ οὐ γεννώσῃ, εἶπε κύριος, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ γεννῶσαν καὶ στεῖραν ἐποίησα, λέγει κύριος. Εὐφράνθητι Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ πανηγορίσατε πάντες οἱ ἀγαπῶντες αὐτήν· χαίρετε πάντες ὅσοι πενθεῖτε ἐπʼ αὐτήν, ἵνα θηλάσητε καὶ ἐμπλησθῆτε ἀπὸ μασθοῦ παρακλήσεως αὐτῆς, ἵνα ἐκθηλάσαντες τρυφήσητε ἀπὸ εἰσόδου δόξης αὐτοῦ.

“‘Who has heard such a thing, and who has seen it so, whether the earth travailed in one day, or whether a nation was born at once, that Zion travailed and bore her children? But I have given this expectation also to her who does not bear, said the Lord; behold, I have made her who bears and the barren, says the Lord. Rejoice, Jerusalem, and keep festival, all who love her; rejoice, all you who mourn over her, that you may suck and be filled from the breast of her consolation, that having sucked you may delight in the entrance of his glory.’”
