On Idolatry 7

At this point the zeal of faith will plead, groaning: that a Christian should come from idols into the church, come from the adversary's workshop into the house of God, lift up to God the Father hands that are the mothers of idols, adore with those hands which outside are adored against God, bring to the body of the Lord those hands which give bodies to demons! Nor is this enough. It would be a small thing if they received from other hands what they defile; but they themselves even hand on to others what they have defiled. Makers of idols are elected into the ecclesiastical order! What wickedness! Once the Jews laid hands on Christ; these men assail his body every day. O hands that ought to be cut off! Let them see now whether it was said merely by way of comparison: “If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off.” What hands more deserve to be cut off than those in which the Lord's body is caused to stumble?
