nec mortuos coronamus. ego uos in hoc magis miror, quemadmodum tribuatis exanimi aut sentienti facem aut non sentienti coronam, cum et beatus non egeat et miser non gaudeat floribus.

Nor do we crown the dead. I wonder rather at you in this, how you give to a lifeless man either a torch, if he feels, or a garland, if he does not feel, since if he is blessed he does not need flowers, and if wretched he does not rejoice in them.
